ASSASSINATION ON MEDIOCRITY
he had everything: pocket money
for toy guns and floral gums
girls who dropped their knickers in the play surgery
today is another Monday
twenty years after
he came in early to finish off the report
volunteered
turned out to be just
another timid fool
subservient to media trending
yes, I will do that
of course, I will

to take one rejection after another
and still carry on
makes him as loyal to workplace
as ice cubes in the glass
money is the problem
or perhaps the answer
frustration that cannot be expressed
yearns youth years to reminisce
he knows it is better to find
the end of things before they find him
a lunch break in five minutes
postpones making a firm statement
with every bite of the sandwich
he wishes to be five again (18th September 2014)
