LIFE SOUNDS REMARKABLE WHEN RECOUNTED BY THE LOVED ONES
he could hear her fists
thud on a chest
sobs in a deep asthmatic inhales
determined not to show a weakness
eyes circled by death’s mascara
her comfort was draining away
each time nurse pierced the wrong vein

he needed strong hands
to push him through
days melting into weeks
turning into years
a dictator mother yanked away
from unprepared concerns
invalidated his faith

the gap she left was enormous
even if narrowed family by only one
youth moved on
his own and not his own
he closed off to mysteries of adolescence
carried all sorts of recollection
with no chance to return (21st July 2015)
